In a community post on Rockstar’s website, the developer laid out plans for the next-gen version of GTA 5 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, including the release date for both GTA 5 and GTA Online. However, the news that struck most fans attention was the announcement that development on Grand Theft Auto 6 had finally begun.

While it’s still early to determine when players can expect the game to release, some fans and insiders have voiced their opinions on when they can expect the GTA 6’s release window. In a tweet responding to Rockstar’s announcement, Jason Schreier of Bloomberg speculated that Rockstar would not only announce the release date for Grand Theft Auto 6 this year, but that the release date could be as soon as late 2023, or sometime into 2024.

In Schreier’s tweet, he specifically denotes the late 2023 date as “fake,” seemingly with the implication that if Rockstar announced this date, it would only be for promotional hype purposes, and not because Rockstar could feasibly release the game in that time frame. This would not be the first time a Rockstar title would experience delays, as Red Dead Redemption 2 suffered from extensive release delays after the game’s initial announcement.

Despite the skepticism of Schreier’s tweet, there may be some truth to the game’s release being within the next year or two. However, this may cause problems for Rockstar if the title is launched too early, as was the case for GTA The Trilogy, which launched with a plethora of bugs and had players demanding refunds.

With the release of Take-Two’s financial report, there may be some suggestion to the claim that fans will be seeing Grand Theft Auto 6 releasing very soon. Hopefully the title is able to live up to players expectations after spending so much time in Los Santos.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently in development.
