When asked about the possibility of Resistance 4, James Stevenson, Insomniac’s community director, said that while nothing is impossible, the studio currently has no plans to make another entry in the franchise.

Stevenson also dismissed the possibility of having an outside studio develop another entry in the franchise, as was the case of Resistance: Burning Skies, a PSP game developed in 2012 by Sony’s Bend Studio, which is currently working on the zombie game Days Gone. Stevenson did, however, add that Sony is the actual owner of the property, and could, therefore, allow any outside studio to develop the game if they felt another entry was particularly necessary.

The Resistance franchise may not be entirely dead, but it is disappointing to see Sony and Insomniac sit on such an interesting IP. Alternate timeline games are interesting, though few and far between simply because not many games have managed to get the genre right beyond the likes of Wolfenstein.

No Resistance game has been released since the launch of the PS4, meaning that there’s an entire potential untapped market for a sequel or even a remaster of the original the original PS3 game. Sony did renew the copyright a few years ago, stirring up rumors at the time another entry could’ve been upon us. It seems that time has come and gone now, and the odds of getting anything new are incredibly slim. At least there’s still Spider-Man to look forward to.
