To resolve this, Valve shows you the size of a game when browsing your Steam library. It’s a small yet handy benefit.

At the time of writing, this is only available on the Steam client beta, though will no doubt roll out to wider release soon.

How to See How Much Space a Game Requires on Steam

Simply open the Steam client, go to your Library, and select a game.

To the right of the Install button, you’ll see Space Required. This will show you how much spare space you need to install the game. Since many video games have large footprints, this is helpful to see how much of a dent your storage drive will receive.

Previously, you had to click the Install button to see this information. You can still do that to also see how much disk space you have available and the estimated download time.

How to Use Steam’s Beta Client

At the time of writing, this interface update is only available on the beta version of Steam. Presumably this will roll out to everyone eventually. Until then, here’s how you can opt into Steam’s beta client:

From Steam’s top toolbar, select Steam > Settings. On the Account tab, next to Beta participation, click Change. From the dropdown, select Steam Beta Update and click OK. You’ll get a prompt to restart Steam. Click Restart Steam. This will install the beta version of the Steam client.

You can opt out of the beta by following the same steps, but selecting NONE - Opt out of all beta programs on step three’s dropdown. You might wish to do this if you notice bugs after switching to the beta.

Uninstall Steam Games to Conserve Space

If you’re strapped for storage space, don’t forget that it’s simple to uninstall Steam games. And with this handy feature that shows how much space games require, it’s easier than ever to see what you have room to install.
